They can be sardonic, knowing, cynical and, occasionally, even poignant. Some of the Splinters were published in the Cormorant last year and displayed as a visual installation in the windows of the Yeats Memorial Building in Sligo for three months.

I came to this course to put myself in the company of people who love what I love – reading and writing – in a space where creativity could flourish. We write for any number of reasons. For me, it is sometimes to rail against the world; sometimes to celebrate it; sometimes to walk the mind’s dog. I write short poems and micro fiction in a series called Splinters, because they tend to stick under the skin of the reader.
